Flood Gates & Blast Doors LLP offer a full range composite steel floodgates, manufactured to a tested and Environment Agency approved design. The flood gate options fulfil the four main design criteria,

• Flood Gates withstanding a hydrostatic head of water with combined impact point loading to specific a area ( flood debris).
• Flood Gates withstanding a hydrostatic head of water with overtopping to a required height.
• Bund gate withstanding surge loads followed by a hydrostatic load.
• Storm Gates withstanding a hydrostatic load, combined wave load and point impact load for exposed coastal applications.

Flood gate construction
For non-corrosive bund gates and inland flood defence applications our floodgates are manufactured from mild steel with an internal structural core and double steel skins forming a fully seam welded composite construction.

For Storm Gates and harsh Bund Gate applications where gates are subjected to a saline environment or potentially corrosive material the storm gates and bund gates are manufactured from stainless Grade 316 and built to the exacting standards of the steel floodgates

Floodgate bespoke sizes
Each flood gate assembly is bespoke, manufactured to order and to the clients exact width and height dimensions. The orientation of the hinge assembly will allow the gate leaf to swing through 1890 degrees locking tight back to the main wall so it does not interfere with the clear structural opening. Using standard component parts our floodgate range from small 600mm x 600mm built as a single leaf floodgate structure up to 11000mm x 2000mm built as double floodgate and frame assembly. The varying gates sizes fall into three main design groups;

• 150mm floodgates
• 100mm flood gates
• 70mm flood gates

Further development will allow larger gates to be constructed but the physical limits of manual operation will restrict much larger gates than those already designed and built

Floodgate protective coatings and decorative finishes

Stainless steel floodgates require little more than a garnet blast finish, steel floodgates are available with the following decorative options and epoxy paint systems finished in almost any colour. Epoxy protection ensure minimum maintenance for the end user and long operational life of the floodgate. Gate finish options include;

• Decorative top coat to any RAL or BS colour
• Epoxy high build paint system
• Stainless steel with uniform garnet blast finish
• Timber cladding as optional extra in soft or hard wood

Floodgate security and operation

The latching systems design of the flood gate used allows manual operation by a single operator with even largest gates. The spanner operable latch mechanism is used to fully compress the perimeter seal whilst closing the leaf ensuring a water tight seal is achieved, when reversed it will push the gate open to a free swinging position.

The gate is prevented from being operated by unauthorized persons with the latch securely housed and locked within in the gate leaf in both the open and closed position. requiring key access at all times.

On domestic applications where the visual impact of a steel gate would not be acceptable an alternative option is a demountable stop log solution, The stop log assemblies require a colour coded slim line frame mounted to the wall of the building that houses lightweight removable UPVC boards, these boards simply dropped into place and with just a quarter turn of the locking clips seal to a water tight state.

These stop logs have been manufactured and tested in accordance with PAS1188-1:2003, the test carried out replicates expected UK flood conditions up to a defence height 1.5 meters and the whole assembly carries a BS kite mark.

Blast doors fall into two main category uses –

• Blast containment for explosive material storage, detonated from an internal source
• Blast protection of personnel within a building with a threat from an external source

In hazardous or potentially explosive environments Blast Doors are designed into blast resistant buildings and constructed for personnel safety, These are frequently used in explosive manufacturing and storage facilities, petro-chemical & pharmaceutical sites and more frequently include a number potential terrorist targets.

Manufactured from steel, Blast Doors are constructed as either a composite panel or as a solid plate door construction, the blast threat and usage will determine the most suitable door type to be selected.

Blast and Fire rated Blast Doors

Accidental or deliberate blast events often follow with the risk of fire, in the petrochemical sector the a fire may well be trigger for a blast event so with this in mind a selection mid range blast doors have been fire tested to BS EN 1634-1:2000.

The range consists of;

• 22Kn Double leaf blast door with vision panel tested to 2 hrs
• 22Kn Single leaf door with no vision panel tested to 2 hrs
• 22Kn Single leaf blast door with vision panel tested to 1hr
• 44Kn Double leaf blast door with no vision panel tested to 4 hrs

The blast doors are supplied with an multi-bolting operation, external lock set, with internal panic bar or panic bad for emergency exit or as internal lever handle operation with external lock set
