Coopers Fire are the world leaders in
Fire Curtain and Smoke Curtain systems and are based in their
purpose built manufacturing plant in the south of the United
Kingdom.
The original Gravity Fail Safe (GFS) Smoke and Fire Curtain was
invented and patented by Coopers and has become the benchmark for
most Smoke and Fire Curtain systems sold worldwide today.
Consequently their products have been specified and installed in the
majority of the world’s landmark buildings with the most recent
being The Shard, London’s new tallest building.
History

Coopers have over 25 years of experience in Fire & Smoke Barrier
systems and were the first to bring Smoke Curtains and Fire Curtains
to the market with micronized aluminium fire resistant coatings,
which are now the industry standard.
Development

They were also the first to introduce the 24 v dc variable speed
drive system with integral 24 v dc brake and regenerative dynamic
braking, which is now known worldwide as VarioSpeed™.
Coopers Fire have been heavily involved in the introduction of
British and European Standards, including the very latest BSI PAS
121, the only definitive specification for Fire Curtains in the
world.
Vertical Fire Curtains

A
vertical Fire Curtain is an automatic fire barrier system that is
used as a fire-separating element. It comprises fire resistant
fabric fixed to a steel roller, which is driven by an internal
tubular electric motor.
The roller is mounted and enclosed in a steel housing and the bottom
edge of the curtain has a weighted bottom bar. The curtain is
retained in side channels to keep it in position when operational.
It is activated from a Fire Detection System and closes to the
finished floor level.
Horizontal Fire Curtains

A
horizontal Fire Curtain is an automatic barrier system that usually
acts as a fire-separating element between floors of a building. It
comprises fire resistant fabric fixed and tensioned between rollers
mounted at either end of the void opening.
A tubular motor drives each roller, which are mounted and enclosed
in a steel housing and the leading edge of the curtain has a
supporting bar spanning between the side channels that retain the
curtain.
It is activated from the fire detection system and horizontally
closes the opening in the floor / ceiling.
Residential Fire Curtains

The
Vii®Fire range of Fire Curtains was the first compact Fire Curtain
design to be brought to the market and allow true Plug & Play
installation. It was also the first real alternative solution to a
traditional fire door.
Being more compact, this range is suited to residential applications
as the overall unit is more discreet.
Vertical Smoke Curtains

A
vertical Smoke Curtain is an automatic smoke barrier system that
controls the movement of smoke in a building during a fire. Similar
to a vertical Fire Curtain, it comprises fire resistant fabric fixed
to a steel roller, which is driven by an internal tubular electric
motor.
On Activation, the curtain closes to above head height (sometimes to
the finished floor level) to create a smoke-free layer.
EVACU8 Smoke Curtains

SmokeStop
EVACU8™ Smoke Curtains are a unique patented bi-roller system, which
has narrow overlapped panels / strips.
In the event of a fire, evacuees can simply walk through the
‘strips’, which then fall back into place, helped by the patented
anti-tangle overlap retention system. The EVACU8™ Smoke Curtain is
also DDA compliant. |
