Welcome to JMI Earthing
Services Ltd.
The JMI consultancy provides specialist support and training in earthing/gr ounding,
lightning protection, stray current collection, and the creation and refinement
of integrated management systems. The organisation was created by John Maher in
2002 and has established itself as the most respected and sought consultancy in
the sector. JMI has become synonymous with honed expertise, the best technology,
and the most effective and practical solutions. JMI’s customers have always
returned to the consultancy with new projects, confident that their requirements
will be met or surpassed. JMI undertakes work throughout Europe, the Middle
East, the Far East, Africa and North America. Further information on JMI can be
found on our website. Please refer to the news section of www.jmiearthing.com to
gain a better appreciation of the consultancy.
Core services
Our multi-disciplined team is able to support in a range of different sector
areas, all of which are adapted into client friendly courses by our training
team. In no way does the following exhaustively detail the competencies and
capabilities of the consultancy, or our training team’s catalogue of courses,
which have diversified and expanded from electrical safety.
Earthing/Grounding (earthing is a European term; grounding is the equivalent
term for the USA)
Electricity will kill people without correct management and control. Effective
systems and operating procedures have to be in place to ensure that the safest
environment is created to protect the contents of a building and its users;
particularly with a focus on touch and step voltages (more details on
www.jmiearthing.com). Earthing concerns demand competent, experienced operatives
conversant with all applicable standards and possessing the best technology to
determine the most effective customer-focused solution. Harnessing this resource
there is no earthing project that JMI cannot support, from small scale lightning
protection earthing to the largest power stations in the world.
Our earthing engineers often travel to undertake surveys, inspections or tests,
or to provide direct support to our clients. JMI founder, John Maher, spends a
large proportion of his time visiting clients all over the world to ensure that
they are receiving the best support for their earthing needs, which can include:
• Consultation
• Designs (complete with technical drawings and conclusive CDEGS reports)
• Reports
• Compliance statements
• Assessments and investigations
• Installation method statements
• Training
• Troubleshooting
• Soil resistivity surveys (including the processing of results obtained by
clients)
All of our services can be conducted on-site if required. JMI has supported a
range of significant projects to date, many of which have been noted on the news
section of www.jmiearthing.com.
Lightning Protection
With the exception of floods lightning is the biggest weather-linked killer.
Without correct protection lightning could kill those in and around your
premises and destroy everything your organization needs to operate. JMI uses a
pragmatic approach, the latest software and knowledge of the best equipment and
materials in the industry to convert potential hazards into protected zo nes.
The JMI consultancy focuses on effectiveness as opposed to the preferred
installation methods, which sadly is often considered the priority by other
companies within our sector.
• JMI provides compliant designs, complete with AutoCAD drawings, design
specifications, schedule of materials and compliance statement.
• Our team can undertake the risk assessment of BS EN 62305 on behalf of
organizations.
• JMI provides training in all facets of lightning protection
John Maher often acts as an ambassador to promote effective use of BS EN 62305.
JMI created a BS EN 62305 Risk Assessment software comparison report, detailing
the various limitations and biases within available software; the first study
undertaken by any organization in the world.
Stray Current Management
JMI engineers have worked on numerous prominent light rail projects and continue
to do so. If such a system lacks an appropriate method of collecting and
dispersing stray current then the financial implications can be frightening .
JMI identify potential problem areas and create detection and removal procedures
to ensure a safe and cost-effective system. As this is a specialist area there
are few other companies able to provide support.
Training
There is a common perception that businesses regard their employees as costs
instead of assets. JMI applauds the prudence of organisations that seek to
enhance the value of their staff through training and can support in the
following areas:
• Earthing/grounding
• Lightning protection
• Stray current management
• Management systems (quality, environmental, health and safety)
• Bespoke courses of a broader scope as defined by client (team building,
enhancing staff commitment, positivity in the workplace)
The courses can be practical in nature (particularly installation and testing
training) and take place at your premises. Our most popular course recently has
been adapting to BS EN 62305:2006.
Management Systems
Much like the training team, JMI’s management systems consultancy is not limited
to the electrical sector. Astute companies know that specific management systems
controlling quality, environmental and occupation al
health and safety elements demonstrate their commitment to running an effective
and responsible business, whilst enhancing profitability. If you require support
directing your organization towards greater efficiency please get in touch. All
members of this JMI team are qualified lead auditors in ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and
OHSAS 18001 and can assist in development, audits, and continual improvement of
the system.
Maintenance
If installed correctly, earthing, lightning protection and stray current systems
should have a extensive lifespan. However, accidents happen (particularly when
construction work has occurred after system installation) and general wearing
and weathering effects can reduce the efficiency of a system. It is prudent to
test systems at planned intervals. Maintenance tests and inspections require a
site visit conducted by JMI with the findings issued in the form of a detailed
report.
Project Management
JMI project management consultants draw from the experience and knowledge of our
engineers who have skills that extend from initial planning, detailed
installation, method statements and risk assessments, construction
implementation, measurements and testing and auditing of records. We are
specialists in helping our clients deliver compliant systems on budget and on
time.
