Floodgates -
Protection |
|
Defence
Doors Ltd has standard steel Floodgates that have been approved
and used for Environment Agencies and local authority alleviations
schemes throughout the UK.
With rising sea levels,
Floodgates are now being
designed into the new sea defences all along the UK coast line incorporating a
range of watertight steel Flood Gates and storm gates. These gates are built
directly into new concrete wave walls or manufactured as a free standing
structure between existing walls. Heavy seas and transported debris impose
structural loading on the floodgates in storm conditions, these gates are designed to
withstand these impact loads whilst protecting coastal towns from tidal surges.
Adverse weather conditions
and extreme rain fall is now common place creating regular flash flooding across
the country. We have a range of
steel
Floodgates designed specifically for the river defences currently being
designed built by the Environment Agency. These steel structures do have a
visual impact on the surrounding areas but design considerations are given to
minimize this impact. We offer a range of alternative finishes to the gate
surface with various options of timber cladding, stainless steel engravings or
architectural sculptures mounted on the gates leaf to reduce this impact by
making the gate a focal point.

Blast Protection |

Light composite
doors manufactured for buildings occupied and regularly used by personnel in
control rooms, government building and can also be used as Cell Doors for
holding rooms. These doors are lined with acoustic
thermal cores and generally these are fitted with security hardware and
emergency exit devices. The hardware has to be substantial enough to resist a
blast load and yet remain functional, and is generally supplied with one of the Surelock McGill multi point security products and supplied in a primer or epoxy
paint system.
Heavy
composite
double skinned heavy plate assemblies with internal structural members or
concrete cores. Door type is for hardened buildings, explosive stores,
military installations and can also be used as high security Prison Doors.
These doors are generally
manually operated with options of rack and pinion or multi point latching centre
hand wheel operation. Options are available for automating these doors using
hydraulic, pneumatics or electrics depending on the door application and design
brief. These heavy composite constructions may weigh several tones but are still
operable by a single person and available in a primed or epoxy paint finish.
Heavy plate
single skinned assemblies
generally operated as the heavy composite doors but the option here is for a
single skin to prevent penetration of exploded fragments. The door plate
limitations are the commercial availability of the plate thickness but generally
up to 100mm think plate is commercially available.
Prison doors,
grilles gates and security steel work is all manufactured to Home Office
drawings. Confidentially agreements restrict the information available on these
products but all security items supplied are manufactured and installed to the
current Prison standards.

Barriers
& Stop Logs |
|
Flood
Defence Windows are unique and have been designed not only to take a static
head of water but also withstand a flotsam impact load of 1000 kg travelling at
a speed of 4 m/s and debris.
These windows are resin anchored and drilled into existing masonry as
standard window and then sealed with a two-part mastic system developed and
tested at the same time as the window.
An alternative
defence solution to permanent steel
Floodgates
are demountable stop logs assemblies. Steel
Gates or
doors have an unacceptable visual impact on a property. We offer a
light weight protection stop logs system manufactured in UPVC that is strong,
and rapidly deployed, unobtrusive and non corrosive.
The barriers are designed for on seat water pressure applications
(water pushing the stop log onto the frame) and retained by a quick
action clip assemblies. These defences protect window, doors, patio
doors, garage doors and driveway entrances.
The UPVC boards are manufactured only in white as is the frame assembly,
the alloy frame can be re-painted by the customer with any oil based gloss to
suit the surrounding stone or brickwork after installation. |

Operation
& Maintenance
|
|
The latching operation takes
no more than 20 seconds to fully close and lock the gate from the fully open
position with no requirement to wind down or raise the seal assemblies.
The single latching assembly
is a very robust simple acme thread design and virtually indestructible,
manufactured from all stainless steel with a bronze nut housing and a base pivot
assembly that is lined with two bronze thrust washers. An operating spanner
is required and supplied to open and close the gates, there is an option
available to padlock the latch assembly to prevent unauthorized access.
The gate seals are a hand
made composite construction, manufactured from expanded neoprene sponge and VS
sponge then covered in a
2mm solid neoprene skin, this construction ensures durability and compress
ability.
